Bottled lemon juice is a convenient and often cheaper option.

Grab a plate of sugar and a chilled cocktail glass (coupe).

Take a piece of lemon and rub the lemon juice around the edge of the glass to help the sugar stick.

Turn the glass upside down and set it onto the sugar, letting gravity do its work. Shake off any excess sugar and place the glass back in the freezer to keep it cold.

Measure out 1 1/2 oz of cognac and pour it into a cocktail shaker.

Add 1 oz of orange curaçao to the shaker.

Add 1/2 oz of fresh lemon juice to the shaker.

Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.

Retrieve the prepared glass from the freezer and double strain the cocktail mixture into the glass, ensuring the pour falls just below the sugar line.
