bacon – 3 oz /100 g
pickled cucumber – 6 oz /170 g
bulb onion – 10½ oz /300 g
garlic – 2 cloves
sour cream 15% - 7 oz /200 g
wheat flour – 1½ tbsp
ground black pepper – 1 tsp
1 bay leaf
vegetable oil – 1 tbsp
water – 14 fl oz /400 ml
salt – to taste

Cut the pork, bacon, bulb onion and pickled cucumber into thin strips, mince the garlic.

Heat a pan over high heat with the vegetable oil and fry the meat for 3-4 minutes until golden in two equal parts.

Take the meat out into a bowl.

In the same pan fry the bacon for 2-3 minutes over medium heat.

Add the chopped bulb onion and pickled cucumber into the pan and fry over medium heat for 4 minutes stirring occasionally.

Add the garlic and wheat flour and keep frying for another minute over medium heat.

Add the sour cream, water, salt, pepper and a bay leaf and stir carefully.

Bring to a boil, lay out the fried meat, cover with a lid and braise over low heat for 15 minutes.

Serve the kurzemes with a mashed potato, vegetable side dish, rice or pasta.
