Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture in three additions.
In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form, then fold into the chocolate mixture.
Spoon the mousse into serving dishes and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.
Serve chilled, optionally topped with whipped cream or chocolate shavings.
