2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
4 large egg yolks
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup mixed fresh fruits (e.g., strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, banana)

In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to steam, but do not let it boil.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and salt until smooth.

Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously to temper the eggs.

Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon (about 5-7 minutes).

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
