Today, variations can be found across Nordic countries, each with unique fillings and shapes, making them a cherished treat during the winter season.

Whip 3 cups of warm heavy whipping cream until it has peaks that stay.
Mix in 2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
Add 1 cup of soft butter and mix until combined.
Slowly add 3 and 1/4 cups of flour until the dough is formed.
Knead the dough with your hands when it becomes too thick to mix with the machine.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
To make the prune filling, add 4 cups of water to a pot and add 5 and 1/3 cups of dried pitted prunes.
Boil on medium-high heat until the prunes dissolve, stirring occasionally.
Once the prunes are pasty, turn off the heat and let it cool.
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Remove the dough from the refrigerator and roll it out on a floured surface.
Cut the dough into squares and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Place about a teaspoon of prune filling in the center of each square.
Fold over the corners of the squares to form a star shape, pressing to secure them together.
Mix 3 or 4 eggs in a cup and glaze the pastries with a pastry brush.
Bake in the oven at 375°F until golden brown, about 20 minutes.
Store in freezer bags to keep them moist and sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
