Chili is a staple of American cuisine, particularly in the southwestern United States. It is often associated with gatherings and events such as cook-offs and tailgating. The dish has many regional variations, with some versions including additional ingredients like corn or peppers. Its origins can be traced back to the 19th century, with influences from Mexican cuisine and Texan adaptations.

1

Mince 6 cloves of garlic, removing any sprouts to avoid bitterness.

2

Chop 3 medium onions finely, aiming for small pieces that will disintegrate in the stew.

3

Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat and sauté the onions until translucent.

4

Add 3 tablespoons of chili powder and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon to the sautéing onions and cook for a minute to release flavors.

5

Stir in 1 can of tomato paste and crush 2 Chipotle in adobo into the mixture, cooking it out for a bit.

6

Add 3 lbs of ground beef to the pot, breaking it up with a spoon and cooking until no longer raw looking, about 5 minutes.

7

Once the beef is cooked, add 3 (14.5 oz) cans of diced tomatoes, 1 bottle of beer (or water), and 2 cans of drained beans to the pot.

8

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and let cook for 5 minutes.
