Today, it is enjoyed in various forms across the Middle East and beyond, with some variations incorporating nuts or dried fruits for added texture and flavor.

Melt 20 g of butter in a pot.
Add the zest of half a lemon to the melted butter.
Sauté the lemon zest in the butter to infuse flavor.
Add 125 g of short grain rice to the pot and sauté briefly with the lemon zest and butter.
Add 25 g of sugar and 1 packet of vanilla sugar to the rice.
Stir until the rice shines and the sugars are incorporated.
Pour in 400 ml of milk and bring to a boil briefly.
Reduce heat and let simmer for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
If the rice pudding is too grainy, add a little more milk and stir until smooth.
Serve the rice pudding warm, optionally topped with cinnamon and sugar.
For the second part, take cold, firm rice pudding from the day before.
Add 100 ml of whipped cream to the cold rice pudding.
Mix well to fluff up the rice pudding and make it creamier.
Add a splash of Amaretto (optional) to the mixture.
Fold in canned fruit cocktail to add color and flavor.
Fill the mixture into glasses for serving.
