Set the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Place a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
Remove the casing from 3/4 pound of Italian sausage and add it to the Dutch oven along with 3/4 pound of ground beef.
Break up the meat with a wooden spoon and brown it for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Chop 7 cloves of garlic and 1 onion, then add them to the browned meat.
Cook for about 5 minutes until the onion is softened and translucent.
Add 6 ounces of tomato paste to the meat mixture and cook to coat the meat.
Add 28 ounces of crushed tomatoes, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 15 ounces of tomato sauce, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, and 3/4 teaspoon of cracked black pepper to the mixture.
Simmer the sauce on medium-low heat for about 25 minutes until thickened.
In a large pot, bring water to a boil and salt it liberally.
Add lasagna noodles to the boiling water and cook until al dente, about 2-3 minutes.
Drain the pasta and rinse it with cold water to stop the cooking process.
In a large bowl, add 15 ounces of ricotta cheese and break it up.
Crack 1 large egg into the ricotta and add 1 tablespoon of freshly chopped parsley, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of cracked black pepper.
Mix the cheese mixture until well combined.
