How to make peach schnapps at home

Chop the peaches into small pieces, discarding any bad bits and pits.

Put the good pieces into a saucepan.

Add 1 cup (250 ml) sugar to the saucepan.

Juice lemons to get 1/4 cup (60 ml) lemon juice and add it to the saucepan.

Add 1 cup (250 ml) of hot water to the saucepan.

Bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring to prevent burning.

Let the mixture cool.

Pour the cooled mix into a large jar.

Rinse out the saucepan with 4 cups (1 litre) of natural spirit, moonshine, or vodka and add it to the jar.

Put the lid on the jar and mix.

Label and date the jar.

Let the mix sit for 1-2 weeks, shaking the jar each day.

Strain the mix, using the strained peaches for a pudding or dessert.

Place the schnapps into the fridge for around 48 hours to allow settlement to fall to the bottom.

Carefully pour the top liquid off into a bottle, leaving behind the settlement.
