Black Cod

Cultural Context

Black cod, known as sablefish, is a prized catch in Japanese cuisine, often celebrated for its rich, buttery flavor and delicate texture. Traditionally, it is marinated in a sweet miso mixture, a technique that enhances its natural umami. This dish is not only a staple in Japanese households but has also gained international acclaim, especially in fine dining, where it is often served grilled to perfection. Its popularity has led to various interpretations worldwide, but the essence of the miso marinade remains central to its identity.
