Big Mac Style Burger

Cultural Context

The Big Mac, introduced by McDonald's in 1968, quickly became a symbol of American fast food culture. Its unique combination of flavors and textures—creamy sauce, crunchy lettuce, and savory beef—has made it an enduring favorite. The Big Mac Style Burger replicates this iconic experience at home, allowing for customization and a personal touch. Today, variations abound, with many home cooks experimenting with different sauces and toppings to create their own signature versions.

Yogurt-based dressing is lighter and healthier.

1

In a medium bowl, combine 113 g mayonnaise, 29 g keto ketchup, 15 ml apple cider vinegar, 15 g keto sweet relish, 1/4 to 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/8 tsp black pepper, 1/2 tsp brown sugar substitute, and 1/2 tbsp mustard.

2

Whisk everything together until fully combined and the sweetener is dissolved. Spoon the sauce into an airtight container and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

3

Preheat oven to 425°F and lightly grease an oven fryer rack or place a cooling rack inside a large baking sheet.

4

Crumble 1.5 lbs of lean ground beef into a large mixing bowl and sprinkle with desired dry seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

5

Stir everything together until fully combined and divide into six portions, roughly 1/4 lb each, shaping into patties about 4 inches in diameter.

6

Place the shaped patties onto the prepared oven fryer rack, leaving space between each one, and bake for 5 to 10 minutes until desired doneness (internal temperature 155°F to 165°F).

7

Remove patties from the oven and let sit for 2-3 minutes to drain excess grease.

8

To assemble the burger, spread 1 to 1.5 tbsp of the special sauce on the bottom portion of a keto hamburger bun.

9

Top with minced onion, shredded lettuce, a slice of cheese, and one cooked hamburger patty.

10

Add another bottom portion of a keto hamburger bun, spread with more special sauce, add more minced onions, and shredded lettuce.

11

Top with a second cooked hamburger patty, 2-3 pickles, and optionally a slice of tomato and a second slice of cheese.

12

Finish with the top portion of the keto hamburger bun and serve immediately.
