Today, it has gained popularity beyond Bhutan, often adapted with various ingredients to suit different palates.

Start by pre-cooking the dried white chilies in a clay pot with a little bit of water for 2-3 minutes on low heat.
Add salt to the chilies while they are cooking.
After 2 minutes, check the chilies; they should be slightly cooked.
Add minced garlic to the pot with the chilies.
Add the shiitake mushrooms to the pot without adding any additional water, as mushrooms contain a lot of water.
Cover the pot and cook for 1 minute.
Stir the mixture after 1 minute of cooking.
Add farmer's cheese and American cheese to the pot along with some fresh scallions from the garden.
Cook until the cheese is melted, stirring occasionally.
Taste the mixture and add more salt if needed.
