Preheat the oven (temperature not specified).
In a mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg, and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
Mix the ingredients together until well combined.
In a separate bowl, combine 1/4 teaspoon baking soda and 1/4 teaspoon salt with 2 cups of all-purpose flour.
Gradually mix in the flour mixture alternating with 2 tablespoons of milk until blended.
Roll the dough into 1-inch balls.
Roll each ball in red and green colored sugar.
Place the balls on a baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, checking for doneness.
After baking, let the cookies cool for a minute or two before adding the Hershey's Kisses by pressing them into the center of each cookie.
Transfer cookies to a cooling rack or a piece of tin foil to cool completely.
