Christmas cookies are a beloved tradition in the United States, often made during the holiday season. Families and friends gather to bake and decorate these cookies, which come in various shapes and flavors. They are commonly exchanged as gifts or served at festive gatherings, symbolizing joy and celebration during the holidays.

Whole wheat flour adds more fiber and nutrients.

Coconut oil is a healthier fat option, while margarine can be more budget-friendly.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Pour 225 g of plain flour into a mixing bowl.
Add 110 g of caster sugar to the bowl.
Chop up 110 g of cold butter and add it to the bowl.
Mix all ingredients together until they resemble fine bread crumbs.
Crack 1 medium egg into the bowl.
Add 1 teaspoon of water to the mixture.
Mix until it forms a ball of dough.
Flour the surface and roll the dough until it's about the thickness of a 1 pound coin.
If using food colourings, separate the dough into sections and add colourings now.
Lightly grease the baking tray.
Cut the dough into shapes using cookie cutters or a knife.
Place the cookies on the baking tray.
Put the trays in the oven, one on the top shelf and one on the middle shelf, and bake for 10-15 minutes, swapping them around halfway through.
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool.
Decorate the cookies with icing materials.
