cheddar cheese

🥗Healthier: reduced-fat cheese

💰Cheaper: American cheese

Reduced-fat cheese lowers calories while maintaining flavor.

slider buns

🥗Healthier: whole grain buns

💰Cheaper: regular hamburger buns

Whole grain adds fiber, while regular buns are more cost-effective.

1

Slice the onion very thinly and give it a rough chop.

2

Place the chopped onions in a strainer over a bowl and mix with about 2 teaspoons of salt per onion. Let them drain for about 30 minutes.

3

After draining, lay down a bed of onions in the skillet and cook for about 1 minute.

4

Season the 2.2-ounce ground chuck patty with salt and pepper, then place it on top of the onions.

5

After about 1 minute, add more onions on top of the patty and season again with salt and pepper. Smash down the patty.

6

Flip the patty after seasoning it again with salt and pepper.

7

Place the slider buns on top of the patty for about 1 minute to soften them.

8

Remove the buns and patty from the skillet, and place a piece of American cheese on top of the patty. Cover for a minute to help the cheese melt.

9

Assemble the slider by placing the patty with melted cheese on the bun and topping it with two slices of dill pickle, mustard, and ketchup.
