Heat 1 tbsp olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
Chop 1 sweet onion and fry for 3-4 minutes until golden.
Add 1 lb ground beef to the skillet; season with salt and black pepper.
Add 1/2 tsp garlic powder and 1 carrot, chopped.
Chop 1/2 small cabbage and add to the skillet; cover and cook for 6-7 minutes over low heat.
In a mixing bowl, combine 2 eggs, 5 tbsp sour cream, and 1 tbsp mayonnaise; mix well.
In another bowl, combine 7 tbsp flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt, and 1 tsp sugar; mix well.
Grease the casserole dish with 1 tbsp butter or vegetable oil.
Pour half of the batter into the greased casserole dish.
Add the cabbage-beef mixture on top of the batter.
Pour the remaining batter over the cabbage-beef mixture.
Bake in the preheated oven at 360°F (180°C) for 35 minutes.
Chop 1 cabbage (about 1.7 pounds / 770g) and season with salt and black pepper.
Layer 1/3 of the cabbage in a buttered dish, add 1/2 the meat mixture, and top with 1/2 tbsp butter.
Repeat the layers, ending with a final layer of cabbage and top with butter; season with salt and black pepper.
Cover the dish tightly with parchment paper, then with a lid or aluminum foil.
Bake at 300°F (150°C) for about 2 hours, until cabbage is soft and sweet.
For an egg mixture, season 2 eggs with black pepper and add 1 tbsp all-purpose flour; mix well.
Thinly slice 2 medium potatoes and layer them in the dish.
Add 4 eggs and 1/2 cup whole milk to the mixture; season with salt and black pepper.
Add 1 cup Gruyère cheese and mix well; add on top of the potatoes.
Bake at 180°C (360°F) for 40 minutes.
Serve with 1 tbsp sour cream (optional).
