1

Add 300 g of lukewarm water to a bowl.

2

Stir in 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of dried yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Mix well and leave for 10 minutes to activate.

3

In a separate bowl, combine 500 g of bread flour (350 g white and 150 g whole meal), 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of dried herbs (optional).

4

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the frothy yeast water mix and 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (olive oil used).

5

Mix until a smooth dough forms.

6

Knead the dough for 10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

7

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and leave in a warm place to rise until it doubles in size (about 1.5 hours).

8

Sauté one thinly sliced onion in 2 teaspoon of vegetable oil on low heat for about 10 minutes until soft and starting to take on color. Remove from heat and let cool.

9

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and knead it for 2-3 minutes.

10

Divide the dough into nine equal portions.

11

Take each ball of dough and knead it in your hands.

12

Flatten one ball of dough to about 5 inches in diameter.

13

Add some grated cheddar cheese and sautéed onions in the center.

14

Pull up the sides of the dough to encase the filling and pinch to seal, shaping it into a roll.

15

Place the finished rolls on a baking tray about a centimeter apart.

16

Cover the tray with a plastic bag and leave in a warm place for about 45 minutes to prove.

17

Once the rolls have risen, sprinkle some grated cheese on top.

18

Bake in a 200°C (normal oven) or 180°C (fan oven) for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown and sizzly.

19

Let the rolls cool slightly before serving.
