Baked Tuna Meatballs

Cultural Context

Baked Tuna Meatballs have roots in Mediterranean cuisine, where seafood is a staple. These meatballs are a healthy and flavorful alternative to traditional meat-based versions, often enjoyed as a main dish or appetizer. They reflect the region's emphasis on fresh ingredients and simple preparation methods. In modern times, variations can be found globally, adapting the basic concept to local tastes and dietary preferences.

1

Drain the tuna to remove any excess oil or water.

2

In a large bowl, flake the tuna with a fork. Add all other meatball ingredients, and mix well to combine. Let it rest for 10 minutes.

3

Using your hand shape the mixture into walnut-sized balls.

4

Line the meatballs on the baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.

5

For tomato sauce, heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the garlic, and cook for 30 seconds. Pour in the tomatoes, and add the basil. Season with salt and black pepper. Bring to a boil, lower the heat and cook gently for 10 minutes.

6

For quick sweet and sour sauce, in a bowl, mix all the ingredients together. No cooking needed.

7

For pesto and ricotta sauce, in a bowl, spoon your favorite basil pesto (or any other green pesto), add double the amount of ricotta cheese and mix until well combined.
