Classic Hummus

Hummus has its roots in the Levant region, particularly in Israel and Palestine, where it is a staple food. Traditionally enjoyed with pita bread, it serves as a symbol of hospitality and community. Today, hummus is celebrated worldwide, with countless variations and adaptations, making it a beloved dish across diverse cultures.

Sunflower seed butter provides a nut-free alternative with similar creaminess.
olive oil

💰Cheaper: vegetable oil
Vegetable oil is more affordable while still providing a neutral flavor.
Turn on the stove to medium-high heat.
Add about 3 cups of water to a pot.
Add drained chickpeas to the pot.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to the pot.
Cover the pot and cook for about 20 minutes until chickpeas are mushy.
After 20 minutes, rinse the chickpeas.
In a food processor, add the cooked chickpeas.
Add tahini to the food processor.
Add cumin powder to the food processor.
Add garlic to the food processor.
Add lemon juice to the food processor (1 large lemon or 2 small lemons).
Add 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to the food processor.
Add salt to the food processor.
Blend on high speed for about 2 minutes, adding 2 tablespoons of cold water gradually while blending.
Use a spoon to mix and ensure everything is incorporated while blending.
Once blended, scoop the hummus into a serving plate.
Make crevices in the hummus with a spoon for presentation.
Drizzle extra virgin olive oil on top of the hummus.
Add pine nuts in the center of the hummus.
Garnish with fresh parsley and sprinkle paprika on top.
