1

In a saucepan, add 1.5 cups of water, 3 ounces of tomato paste, 0.25 cup of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of hoisin sauce, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon of sriracha sauce, 4 cloves of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of minced ginger, and 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.

2

Whisk everything together until the cornstarch is dissolved.

3

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until thickened, about 3 minutes.

4

Remove about a quarter cup of the sauce and set the rest aside to cool.

5

Cook 12 cabbage leaves in boiling salted water, three at a time, for about 2 minutes until pliable.

6

Remove the cabbage leaves from the boiling water and place them on a clean kitchen towel to cool.

7

In the same boiling water, cook a 12-ounce bag of broccoli slaw for a moment to soften, then rinse under cold running water and let drain.

8

In a large mixing bowl, add the cooked broccoli slaw, 1 pound of ground beef, 1 cup of cooked brown rice, 5 chopped scallions, 4 cloves of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of minced ginger, 0.25 cup of soy sauce, 1 large egg, and the reserved sauce.

9

Mix everything together until well combined.

10

Cut the large vein out of each cabbage leaf and place a small portion of the filling into each leaf.

11

Roll the cabbage leaves tightly to enclose the filling and place them into a greased baking dish.

12

Cover the rolls with the remaining sauce, cover the pan with foil, and place in a 400-degree oven for about 50 minutes.

13

Check that the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees, then remove from the oven and allow to rest for about 5 minutes.

14

Spoon the sauce from the baking dish over each roll and garnish with chopped scallions and sesame seeds.
