Apple Cinnamon Rolls are the Perfect Fall Recipe

Combine 1 cup whole milk and 1/3 cup water in a heatproof measuring cup and heat in the microwave until between 110 and 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

Add 2 and 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast and a pinch of sugar to the heated milk mixture, stir gently, and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.

Add the remaining 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 5 tablespoons melted butter, 1 large egg, 1 egg yolk, 2 teaspoons table salt, and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg to the yeast mixture.

Gradually add 5 cups all-purpose flour, mixing until well combined and the dough is tacky but manageable.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Coat a large mixing bowl with olive oil, place the dough in the bowl, cover tightly, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 to 2 hours).

Prepare the filling by combining 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon allspice, 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg, and 1 teaspoon table salt in a bowl.

Peel and chop 2 and 1/2 cups of apples into small pieces.
