Honey is a natural sweetener.
Pour 1 cup of milk into a bowl and warm it in the microwave for 40 to 45 seconds until it reaches 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
Add 2 tablespoons of white granulated sugar to the warm milk and whisk until dissolved.
Sprinkle 7 grams (2 teaspoons) of active dry yeast into the milk mixture and whisk again.
Let the yeast mixture sit for about 10 minutes until frothy; place it in the oven with just the light on to keep warm.
Melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and set aside to cool.
Add 2 more tablespoons of sugar to the frothy yeast mixture, then add the cooled melted butter.
Crack 1 egg into a smaller bowl, whisk it, and add it to the wet ingredients, mixing until well combined.
In a stand mixer bowl, add 3.5 cups (437 grams) of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt; stir with the paddle attachment.
Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture and mix until it comes together; switch to the dough hook.
Knead the dough on medium speed for about 10 minutes until soft, then add 1/2 teaspoon of unsalted butter and mix for another 2 minutes.
Grease a bowl with a dash of oil and place the kneaded dough inside, flipping it to keep the top moist.
Cover the bowl and place it in the oven with the light on to proof for 1 hour until doubled in size.
Punch down the risen dough to release gases, then shape it into a log and cut it into 12 equal pieces.
Take one piece, pull the edges to the center, squeeze, and twist to form a ball; place it in a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Repeat the shaping process for all pieces of dough, then cover with oiled plastic wrap to prevent sticking.
Place the covered dough back in the oven to proof for 30 minutes with the light on.
Prepare the egg wash by whisking together 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of milk.
Brush each loaf with the egg wash gently.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the bread for 20 minutes.
Once out of the oven, brush the warm bread with melted butter for extra flavor.
