It is often enjoyed during special occasions and gatherings, symbolizing hospitality and celebration. Today, künefe has gained popularity beyond Turkey, with variations appearing in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines.

Place 3 cups of water in a saucepan and add 750 grams of sugar to make the syrup.
Add 1/4 lemon to the saucepan and bring it to a boil; let it boil for 5 minutes before removing from heat.
Prepare 750 grams of unsalted cheese by squeezing out excess water.
Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a large pan over medium heat.
Add the kataifi pastry (750 grams) to the melted butter and toss to coat evenly.
Spread half of the kataifi mixture in a greased baking dish.
Layer the squeezed cheese over the kataifi base, spreading it evenly.
Top with the remaining kataifi mixture, pressing down gently.
Cook the künefe on the stove until the edges turn golden brown, flipping it to cook both sides evenly.
Pour the cooled syrup over the hot künefe immediately after cooking.
