Slice 8 ounces of bacon and add it to a rice pot to cook until rendered, not too crunchy.

Drain the bacon and sauté the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic in the bacon fat until the veggies are soft.

Add the can of condensed French onion soup to the sautéed veggies and let it simmer to pick up the brown bits from the pot.

Add 3 cups of long grain rice directly into the pot without rinsing it.

Add the drained bacon and 2 cups of water to the pot with the rice.

Use a spoon to check the water-to-rice ratio; the spoon should stand up if the ratio is correct.

Cook on medium-high heat (setting 7) until it starts to bubble, then stir and cover.

Let it cook for 10 minutes without stirring.

After 10 minutes, stir in the shredded cabbage from the bottom up and cover again to cook for another 10 minutes.
