Brioche is a rich, buttery bread that hails from France, often associated with celebrations and special occasions. Its soft, tender crumb and slightly sweet flavor make it a delightful breakfast option or a base for French toast. Traditionally, brioche dough is enriched with eggs and butter, which gives it a luxurious texture. Today, variations abound, with bakers around the world experimenting with flavors and shapes, making brioche a beloved staple in many cultures.

Coconut oil provides a dairy-free option while margarine is often less expensive.

Whole wheat flour adds fiber, while bread flour can enhance texture.
In the bowl of a standing mixer, combine lots of flour and salt.
In a separate bowl, activate the yeast by adding a pinch of sugar to warm water and then adding the yeast, setting it aside until foamy.
Add sugar to the flour mixture and let it sit while the yeast activates.
Once the yeast is foamy, add 4-5 large eggs (5 if they are small) to the flour mixture.
Attach the dough hook and start mixing the ingredients together.
Add butter in small pieces while mixing, and continue until the dough starts to get greasy on the sides of the bowl.
Add more flour and a tablespoon of honey, mixing until all butter and flour are incorporated and the dough is soft.
Grease two bowls or a 9x13 baking dish with butter wrappers, and place the dough in one, covering with plastic wrap to rise for about an hour until doubled in volume.
After rising, flatten the dough slightly and form it into a loaf, placing it in a greased 8x4 or similar baking dish.
Cover again with plastic wrap and let rise for another 45 minutes until domed on top.
Prepare an egg wash by beating one egg with a little milk, then brush it on top of the dough.
Sprinkle pearl sugar on top for decoration and crunch.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
