Traditionally prepared for family gatherings and celebrations, this dish embodies the comfort of home-cooked meals. Today, it's enjoyed across Portugal and has inspired variations in other countries, reflecting the adaptability of Portuguese cuisine.

Turkey sausage offers a healthier option while smoked sausage is more budget-friendly.
Cut the duck breast and bacon into pieces, tying the bacon if necessary.
Sear the duck breast in a pot with the fat side down for about 2 minutes without oil.
Flip the duck breast, season with salt, and cook for a couple more minutes.
Add extra virgin olive oil, chopped onion, carrot, and garlic to the pot; sauté for 3-4 minutes.
Pour in 1 cup of red wine and mix everything together.
Add the duck, bacon, and sausages to the pot, along with 5 cups of water and 1 cup of bay leaves; bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to medium and let it cook for about 40 minutes.
Remove the meat, let it cool, and strain the broth to remove vegetables and meat pieces.
Shred the duck meat and cut the sausages into pieces.
In a separate pot, add a few drops of extra virgin olive oil and onion; sauté for about 45 seconds.
Add the strained broth and 2 1/3 cups of rice to the pot; mix well and bring to a boil.
Cover and cook until the broth evaporates, about 10-11 minutes.
Mix in the shredded duck and sausage, then transfer to an oven preheated to 425°F (220°C) for 5-7 minutes.
