1

Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl; let sit until frothy, about 10 minutes.

2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and cinnamon.

3

Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the flour mixture; mix until a dough forms.

4

Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 10 minutes.

5

Place the dough in a greased bowl; cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

6

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare baking sheets lined with parchment paper.

7

Roll out the dough into long strips, about 1 inch wide.

8

Wrap the dough strips around wooden dowels or thick skewers, overlapping slightly.

9

Brush the dough with melted butter and roll in a mixture of sugar and ground nuts.

10

Place the skewers on the prepared baking sheets and bake until golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.

11

Rotate the skewers halfway through baking for even cooking.

12

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before sliding the Kürtőskalács off the skewers.

13

Serve warm, dusted with additional sugar or cinnamon if desired.
