Add 3 cups of flour to the mixing bowl.

Add 1.5 teaspoons of salt and 0.5 teaspoons of baking powder to the flour.

Add 1/3 cup of lard to the dry ingredients.

Mix the dry ingredients until well combined.

In a microwave, heat 1 cup of water until hot but not boiling.

While the mixer is running on low, slowly add the hot water to the dry ingredients.

Increase the mixer speed to high and knead the dough for 7 to 10 minutes.

If there are large chunks of lard, break them up by hand until the mixture resembles wet sand.

Once kneaded, sprinkle flour on a clean surface and transfer the dough onto it.

Knead the dough by hand for 1 to 2 minutes until it is soft and not sticky.

Divide the dough into small balls, making about 28 medium-sized balls.

Cover the dough balls with a baggie to rest for 30 to 45 minutes.

While the dough rests, prepare the meat filling.

In a pan, cook 1 lb of ground beef until browned.

Add 3 tablespoons of Sofrito to the meat and mix well.
