Cultural Context

Korean ramen, or ramyeon, has its roots in the 1960s when instant noodles became popular in South Korea. It is a beloved comfort food, often enjoyed as a quick meal or late-night snack. Traditionally, it features a spicy broth and a variety of toppings like kimchi and egg, reflecting the Korean palate's love for bold flavors. 1

Thinly slice 3 cloves of garlic.

2

Slice a bit of onion.

3

If you have parsley, finely chop a little for later use and garnish (optional).

4

Drizzle a bit of oil in a pan and stir-fry the garlic and onion.

5

While that’s cooking, boil some water and add 1 pack of ramyun.

6

Cook the noodles for 2 minutes and 30 seconds until they stay chewy.

7

Once the garlic and onion are nicely cooked, pour in 3/4 cup of milk and add half the seasoning powder.

8

Add the dried veggie flakes to the sauce.

9

When the noodles are done, take them out and add them directly into the sauce.

10

Add 1/2 tablespoon of mayo, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and a handful of cheese.

11

Stir gently over medium high heat for 30 seconds until the cheese melts and the sauce becomes thick and creamy.

12

Add a little bit of parsley at the end.

13

Once the noodles are coated evenly in the sauce, serve it on a plate and sprinkle some chopped parsley on top.
