beef steak

🥗Healthier: lean cuts of beef

💰Cheaper: pork shoulder

Lean cuts are lower in fat; pork is often less expensive.

bell peppers

🥗Healthier: mixed bell peppers

💰Cheaper: frozen bell pepper strips

Mixed peppers provide more nutrients; frozen options are budget-friendly.

1

Slice the beef steak thinly; you can pop it in the freezer for a few moments to help with slicing.

2

Spray the slow cooker with cooking spray.

3

Add the sliced steak to the slow cooker and spread it out.

4

Season the meat with all-purpose seasoning, steak seasoning, and mushroom umami seasoning to taste; mix well.

5

Add sliced bell peppers and onions on top of the meat, leaving them slightly larger for texture.

6

Add minced garlic and mix slightly, keeping the onions and bell peppers on top of the meat.

7

Pour in 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and add the packet of Lipton onion soup mix over the peppers and onions.

8

Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.

9

Once cooked, mix 1 tablespoon of water with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch to thicken the sauce; add this mixture to the slow cooker and mix well.

10

If cooking on low, turn the heat to high and let it thicken to your liking, adding more cornstarch and water if necessary.

11

After about 5 minutes, check the thickness; remember it will thicken as it cools.

12

Optionally, add 2 teaspoons of browning sauce for color, then taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
