Traditionally associated with the holiday season, gingerbread is often made into cookies or houses, symbolizing warmth and festivity. Today, it remains a beloved treat, with variations found worldwide, from soft cakes to crisp cookies.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Add molasses, eggs, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with hot water, until combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Once cooled, dust with powdered sugar mixed with a little milk to create a glaze.
Serve slices warm or at room temperature, optionally with whipped cream.
