1/2 cup neutral flavored oil
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste (optional)
1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional)
1 tablespoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 block cream cheese
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1-2 tablespoons milk or cream
orange zest (for topping)
1

Start by adding 1/2 cup of neutral flavored oil into a mixing bowl.

2

Add 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar and whisk together until creamy.

3

Add 1 egg and 1/2 cup of molasses, then mix well.

4

Pour in 1/2 cup of milk and about 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, along with 1 teaspoon of vanilla bean paste (optional). Mix together.

5

Add 1/4 cup of granulated sugar (optional), 1 tablespoon of ginger, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg. Mix well.

6

In a separate bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder.

7

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until combined and creamy.

8

Prepare a loaf pan by lining it with parchment paper or spraying it with cooking spray.

9

Pour the batter into the loaf pan and cut away excess parchment paper if used.

10

Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake until a knife or toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

11

While the gingerbread is baking, make the cream cheese frosting by mixing 1 block of softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, a splash of vanilla, and 1-2 tablespoons of milk or cream until creamy.

12

Once the gingerbread has cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting on top and add orange zest for flavor and color.
