Mash enough ripe bananas to get about 1 cup.

Cream together 1/2 cup softened butter and 1 cup brown sugar.

Add 2 eggs (room temperature) to the butter and sugar mixture.

Mix in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and the mashed banana.

Add 1/2 cup buttermilk (or substitute with yogurt or milk with vinegar) to the mixture.

Fold in 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt until almost combined.
