This delightful treat is often enjoyed during breakfast or as a snack, symbolizing the island's rich culinary heritage. Today, ensaimadas have gained popularity beyond Spain, with variations appearing in various countries, showcasing local flavors and ingredients.

Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
Dissolve yeast in warm water and let it foam for 5-10 minutes.
Add eggs and milk to the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
Gradually add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
Roll out the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
Spread lard evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with cinnamon and orange zest.
Roll the dough tightly into a log, then coil it into a spiral shape.
Place the spiral on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake the ensaimada for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
