Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
Grease and flour a rectangular baking pan.
Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Sift together flour and baking powder, then gradually add to the mixture.
Divide the batter into two bowls; mix cocoa powder into one bowl.
Spread the plain batter evenly in the prepared pan.
Dollop the cocoa batter over the plain batter and swirl gently with a knife.
Evenly distribute pitted cherries over the top of the batter.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
Allow to cool completely in the pan.
Prepare a frosting by mixing powdered sugar with cream until smooth.
Spread the frosting over the cooled cake.
Melt dark chocolate and drizzle over the frosting before serving.
