Nutritional yeast provides a cheesy flavor with fewer calories.
Season the mushrooms with buttermilk, Cajun seasoning, paprika, ground thyme, salt, and black pepper, ensuring they are well coated.
Add self-rising flour and fine breadcrumbs to the seasoned mushrooms, tossing until they are dry and coated.
Heat oil until it shimmers and shows little waves, indicating it's close to frying temperature.
Cut the stems off the whole white mushrooms and cut them in half if they are large.
Lower the heat to medium-low and drop the coated mushrooms into the oil, frying them slowly.
Fry the mushrooms until they are golden brown and crispy, about a few minutes, adjusting the heat as necessary.
Remove the fried mushrooms and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Prepare the dipping sauce by mixing mayonnaise, sour cream, horseradish, parsley, and Chipotle Style Tabasco sauce, adjusting seasoning to taste.
Taste the dipping sauce and adjust with more horseradish, garlic chili sauce, salt, and black pepper as needed.
Serve the fried mushrooms with the dipping sauce.
