Bannock has roots in Indigenous cultures across Canada and was adapted by European settlers. Traditionally made with simple ingredients, it symbolizes resourcefulness and community. Today, it's a beloved campfire treat enjoyed by many, often customized with various herbs or sweet additions.

Honey provides natural sweetness.
Start with 3 cups of all-purpose flour, preferably whole wheat flour.
Add 2 tablespoons of baking powder and 1 teaspoon of salt to the flour.
Optionally, eliminate the salt if desired.
Add some sugar, either brown sugar or dehydrated maple syrup.
For added calories, incorporate fat such as ghee or olive oil.
Mix in about 3/8 cup of water to form a consistent dough.
Optionally, add berries or trail mix to the dough for extra flavor and nutrition.
Wrap the dough around a stick to cook it over a fire, or place it in a frying pan or oven.
For frying, heat olive oil in a frying pan.
Use a pot and pan set as a double boiler to cook the bannock indirectly to prevent burning.
