Irish Barmbrack, a traditional fruit bread, has roots in ancient Celtic harvest festivals, where it was served during Samhain. This sweet loaf is often associated with Halloween and is used in fortune-telling, with hidden charms that predict the future. Today, Barmbrack is enjoyed year-round, often with tea, and has variations that include different fruits and spices.

Coconut oil provides a dairy-free option.
Soak 375 grams of mixed dried fruit in 300 milliliters of cold tea for about 8 hours, mixing until combined.
After soaking, transfer the fruit mixture into a large bowl.
Add 130 grams of sugar, 225 grams of self-raising flour, 0.5 teaspoon of mixed spice, and 1 beaten egg to the bowl.
Mix all ingredients together until you have a soft mixture with no lumps of flour.
Add a charm (a ring and a coin) wrapped in parchment paper into the mixture for tradition.
Give the mixture one last mix to ensure everything is combined.
Pour the batter into a lined two-pound loaf tin or a 20 centimeter round cake tin.
Flatten out the top of the cake and place it in a preheated oven at 170 degrees Celsius (325 degrees Fahrenheit) for approximately one hour.
Check the cake; it should be well risen and golden brown.
Brush one tablespoon of warm honey over the top of the cake for shine.
