Pork Rinds

Cultural Context

Pork rinds, also known as chicharrones, have their roots in various cultures, particularly in Latin America and Southern United States cuisine. Traditionally made from fried pork skin, they were a way to utilize every part of the pig. Today, they are enjoyed as a crunchy snack, often paired with dips or as a topping for dishes. Their popularity has surged in recent years, especially among those following low-carb diets, making them a beloved snack worldwide.

1

Heat oil in a large pot to 400°F (204°C).

2

Add about 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of dehydrated pork skin into the hot oil in batches.

3

Carefully drop a handful of pork skins into the oil and use a basket to spread them around.

4

Watch the pork skins as they start popping and expanding in the oil.

5

Fry the pork skins for about 3-4 minutes until they are fully opened and cooked.

6

Remove the cooked pork rinds from the oil and place them in a pan lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

7

While the pork rinds are still hot, sprinkle them with Killer Hogs hot barbecue rub.

8

Allow the pork rinds to cool for a couple of minutes before serving.

9

Optionally, drizzle some Killer Hogs hot sauce on top before trying.
