2 pounds party chicken wings

Make the marinade by adding 1/2 cup of black soy sauce to a mixing bowl.

Add 1/2 cup of Shaoxing wine to the bowl.

Add 1/2 tablespoon of minced ginger to the marinade.

Add 2 teaspoons of white sugar to the marinade and mix until the sugar has mostly dissolved.

Add 2 pounds of party chicken wings to a large oven-safe pot.

Add the marinade to the pot with the chicken wings.

Add 8 pieces of star anise to the pot.

Toss the wings in the marinade until evenly coated.

Arrange the wings skin side up in one even layer in the pot.

Let the wings marinate for about 20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, flip the wings over skin side down and marinate for another 10 minutes.
