Turkey

Cultural Context

Turkey has been a staple in American cuisine, especially during Thanksgiving, symbolizing abundance and family gatherings. Traditionally, it is roasted and served with sides like stuffing and cranberry sauce, making it a centerpiece of festive meals. In modern times, variations include deep-frying and brining, with turkey being enjoyed year-round in sandwiches and salads.

1

Preheat the grill to 300 degrees for at least 15 minutes with the lid closed.

2

In a bowl with the softened butter, mix in the garlic, herbs, and seasoning.

3

Prep the turkey by separating the skin from the breast creating a pocket to stuff the butter-herb mixture in.

4

Fill the turkey pocket with as much butter mixture as possible.

5

Rub kosher salt all over the turkey (about 1/2 tablespoon).

6

Use the remaining butter mixture and coat the turkey.

7

Make sure to use a tray to place the turkey in. This is critical for a juicy turkey.

8

You can now stuff the turkey with traditional stuffing if you like.

9

Place the turkey in the prepped grill for 4 hours.

10

Check the internal temperature; the desired temperature is 175°F in the thigh next to the bone, and 160°F in the breast.

11

Turkey will continue to cook once taken off the grill to reach a final temperature of 165°F in the breast.

12

Let the turkey rest for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
