Prepare the filling by mixing ground nuts, sugar, and cardamom in a bowl.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick.
Cut out circles using a cookie cutter or glass.
Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle.
Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape.
Seal the edges by pressing with a fork or pinching with fingers.
Brush the tops with egg yolk and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F until golden, about 20 minutes.
Cool on a wire rack before serving.
