1 cup maize
4 cups water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion
3 cloves garlic
2 medium tomatoes
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder

Select and clear off chaff from the beans and maize.

Combine beans and maize in a ratio of 1 part maize to 2 parts beans; wash and soak for at least 4 hours.

In a saucepan ('Sufuria'), mix the soaked beans and maize with suitable parts of water and boil for 45 minutes to 3 hours until cooked.

In a pan, heat vegetable oil and fry chopped onions until golden brown.

Add minced garlic and stir for 2 minutes.

Add diced tomatoes, salt, and stir until softened.

Mix in turmeric powder, cayenne powder, and black pepper; stir well.

Add the cooked maize and beans to the mixture and stir to combine, adding a little water to make it soupy.

Cover and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes.
