Today, it is enjoyed not only in Ukraine but also in various Eastern European countries, with each region adding its own twist to the recipe.

Mix warm milk with sugar and dry yeast, let it activate for 15 minutes.
Melt unsalted butter and let it cool down.
In a bowl, combine flour and salt, then stir with a spoon or spatula.
Knead the sticky dough by hand for more than 15 minutes until elastic and flexible.
Grease a bowl with vegetable oil, cover the dough, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour 30 minutes.
Press out excess air from the dough and divide it into 2 parts.
Gather each part into a ball and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1 cm thick, then roll it tightly and pinch the edges.
Cover the dough and let it rise for 30 minutes.
Make 5-6 cuts on top of the dough with a sharp knife.
Prepare an egg wash with 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of milk, and brush it on the dough.
Bake at 180 °C (356 °F) for 23-25 minutes.
Cover the finished loaf with a towel until it cools completely.
