This dish is often served with rice and vegetables, making it a balanced meal. Today, teriyaki has gained worldwide popularity, with many variations that include different proteins and vegetables, appealing to diverse tastes.

Rice vinegar + sugar mimics the sweetness and acidity of mirin.

Tamari is gluten-free and often similarly priced.
Add 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 1/3 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 heaping tablespoon of minced garlic, 2 teaspoons of minced ginger, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and 1.5 teaspoons of sesame oil to a small sauce pot.
Add about 1/2 ounce of Modisa black to the sauce pot for extra flavor and a kick.
Stir all the ingredients in the sauce pot to combine.
Heat the sauce pot over medium heat for a couple of minutes until it comes to a boil.
Mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with a couple of tablespoons of water in a separate bowl.
Pour the cornstarch mixture into the sauce pot while stirring, and cook for 30 to 60 seconds until the sauce thickens.
Remove the sauce pot from heat and set the sauce aside.
Prepare the shrimp by ensuring they are peeled and deveined.
Preheat a wok or frying pan with a couple tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Add your choice of vegetables to the hot pan, season with salt and pepper, and stir frequently until cooked to your liking, then set aside.
Heat the pan again and add about 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
Gently place the shrimp into the wok and cook for a few minutes until they turn pink and are no longer translucent.
Add the cooked vegetables back into the pan with the shrimp and give it a quick stir.
Pour the teriyaki sauce over the shrimp and vegetables, reserving a little for plating.
Serve the shrimp and vegetables over rice, garnished with green onion and sesame seeds.
