Sort through the lingonberries, removing any debris and spoiled berries.
Wash the lingonberries thoroughly under running water and then let them drain in a colander.
Wash the apples, dry them, and cut each apple into quarters, removing the core and seeds, then peel and chop the apples into small pieces.
Take a large pot for cooking the jam, add the sugar and pour in the cold water.
Place the pot on low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves, then bring the syrup to a boil.
Add the lingonberries to the boiling syrup and bring it back to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low and cook the lingonberries for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally and skimming off any foam that forms.
After 30 minutes, add the chopped apples to the jam mixture.
Stir and continue cooking the jam for about 15 more minutes, remembering to skim off the foam.
To check the jam's readiness, drop a small amount of hot syrup onto a plate and let it cool; if the drop does not spread, the jam is ready.
Pour the hot jam into sterilized dry jars and seal them immediately with lids.
If using non-twist lids, use a special key to seal them tightly, then turn the jars upside down to cool at room temperature for additional sterilization.
