Activate yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
Mix in melted butter, eggs, and activated yeast mixture until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 8-10 minutes.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1-2 hours.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thick.
Cut the dough into squares or circles, about 3 inches wide.
Place the dough pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Make a small indentation in the center of each piece.
Fill each indentation with fruit preserves or cream cheese mixture.
Let the filled dough rise for another 20-30 minutes.
Brush the tops with egg yolk mixed with water for a golden finish.
Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack before dusting with powdered sugar.
