These cookies symbolize warmth and hospitality, often enjoyed with family and friends. Today, they are cherished not only in Slovenia but have also found their way into various cultures, with many variations adapting local spices and flavors.

Flaxseed meal is a great egg substitute for binding.
Beat 3 eggs in a bowl.
Slowly add in 1 cup of white sugar while mixing until pale yellow consistency is achieved.
Add 150 grams of softened butter and mix well.
Add 200 grams of honey and mix until combined.
Add 2 teaspoons of baking soda and mix.
Gradually add 600 grams of all-purpose flour to the mixture while mixing.
Add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of ginger, 0.5 teaspoon of cloves, and 0.5 teaspoon of nutmeg to the dough.
Add 1 teaspoon of freshly grated lemon zest and mix until combined.
Wrap the dough and place it in the fridge for at least 1 hour or overnight.
Roll out the dough between two pieces of saran wrap or clear plastic wrap.
Place the cookies on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake in a 350°F oven for 7 minutes.
