Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
In a food processor, pulse together flour, baking powder, and salt a few times.
Add butter cut into small cubes to the flour mixture and pulse until it resembles breadcrumbs.
Add sugar, heavy cream, eggs, and vanilla extract to the mixture and pulse until it forms a dough.
Divide the dough in half and refrigerate to firm up.
Peel, core, and grate 3 apples using a food processor with a larger grater for texture.
In a pan over medium-high heat, cook the grated apples with sugar, cinnamon, and cloves for about 15 minutes, stirring to prevent burning.
Remove the apples from heat and let them cool slightly.
Take one half of the dough from the fridge and press it into an 8x8 baking pan lined with parchment paper, pricking it with a fork to prevent bubbles.
Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown on the edges but not fully cooked.
Spread the cooked apple mixture evenly over the partially baked crust.
Roll out the second half of the dough and cut it into stripes to create a pattern on top of the apples.
Bake the assembled pie in the oven for an additional 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
Let the pie cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
