butter

🥗Healthier: coconut oil

💰Cheaper: margarine

Coconut oil offers a dairy-free option and reduces saturated fat.

fruit jam

🥗Healthier: fresh fruit puree

💰Cheaper: store-bought fruit spread

Fresh fruit puree is lower in sugar and preserves the fruit's natural flavor.

1

Activate yeast by mixing 100 milliliters of warm milk with 2 packages of active dry yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar, then let sit for 5-10 minutes.

2

In a large mixing bowl, add sifted flour and make a well in the center, sprinkling salt around the edges.

3

Add egg yolks, sugar, warm milk, activated yeast, lemon zest, rum, and butter into the well.

4

Mix the ingredients together using a stand mixer with a dough hook for 8-10 minutes until the dough separates from the bowl.

5

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 1 minute until smooth and round.

6

Place the dough back in the bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm area for 1.5 to 2 hours.

7

Roll out the dough into a square or rectangle about 1 centimeter thick.

8

Cut the dough into rectangular shapes approximately 4.5 inches by 3 inches.

9

Place one heaping teaspoon of plum jam on one end of each rectangle, fold and seal the edges using fingertips.

10

Brush a baking dish with melted butter, line with parchment paper, and brush the tops of the buns with melted butter before placing them in the dish.

11

Cover the buns and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

12

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180-200°C).

13

Beat one egg and apply an egg wash to the tops of the buns before baking.

14

Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour until golden brown.

15

Let the buns rest for 2 minutes, then sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
